My name is Hikaru. I'm a 5th-year BUCS(Business + Computer Science) student at UBC, with a strong interest in product management, technical consulting, engineering, and design. My goal is to leverage the seemingly disparate fields of business and tech to continually learn how these areas can work together to improve other people's lives.
Last year I had the incredible opportunity to dive into product management through hands-on co-op experiences at two fast-growing startups in Japan. Those experiences fueled my passion for the field, and I'm excited to keep growing and connecting with others who share similar interests in building products that make a difference.
I'm currently a software engineer intern at TELUS in Vancouver, working on internal developer tooling. After spending time on the product side, it's been a great chance to come back to engineering with a sharper sense of what good products actually feel like to build.
Outside of school, you'll often find me exploring the great outdoors — mostly hiking, fishing, and taking photos with my camera. At home, I enjoy reading on the humanities, practicing the drums, or working on a creative project.
Currently in my 5th year of UBC's combined BUCS program — a single degree that pulls equally from Sauder and CS. The program covers both sides of the product lifecycle, which gives me a clearer picture of how an idea travels from a customer problem all the way to something shipped, supported, and improved over time.
Working on internal developer tooling at one of Canada's largest telecoms. Building features and automations that make day-to-day work easier for the engineers around me.
Creww runs open-innovation programs that pair startups with large enterprises. I helped move a flagship accelerator from kickoff to launch — writing specs, coordinating across teams, and turning usage data into something leadership could act on.
MODE builds an IoT + generative-AI platform for on-site operations. I worked on a mobile AI assistant — sitting between engineering and design, shaping requirements, and keeping the product close to what users actually needed.
UBC's largest tech club. Led product on a student-facing engagement platform and a few side experiments around events, feedback, and networking. A good sandbox to learn what good product habits look like with a volunteer team.
Sekigin is an online English-tutoring platform. I worked on a full-stack web app that handled the customer-facing side of scheduling and lessons — auth, data flows, and a few integrations to keep operations tidy.
